Carbon Addiction’s journey into competitive barbequing all started with a visit to Meat Stock 2018. 

“It was a real eye-opener for us wandering around the pit lane and meat stock itself. The overwhelming feeling of needing to be part of this took over”.  Fast track to 2020 and the addiction was real. The team were now proud owners of a Weber 57cm kettle and received an Offset Smoker by a former competitor. Which they endearingly named Frank! 

Then came the competition and the idea of entering a group of mates into the @smokeonthecoast. The goal was simple, if they didn’t come last, they would try again. 

The 2022 edition of ‘Smoke On The Coast’ was the perfect time to show off the team’s grilling skills. With one minor hitch being that, one member had his arm in a cast, due to a nasty accident completing a brisket trim. Thankfully the awkward manoeuvring with an arm in a cast paid off. Nakita took out 1st place ancillary with a well-earned golden ticket, Scott got 8th in steak which kept him in the top 3 on the @SCA NZ leaderboard. The crew also managed to place 15th out of 29 for the NZBA competition with some solid scores across 5 proteins. It was their best competition to date! 

Needless to say, they were hooked and plan to be a part of the ever-growing NZ BBQ scene for years to come. 

With a total of 8 BBQs the list is endless -from Oklahoma Joe Broncos, a Weber kettle, a couple of Weber Go Anywhere’s, then there favourite the “ProQ Stretch”. Not to mention a competition trailer complete with a TV, fridge freezer and dishwasher. The team are ready for meat sweats.
