The Village Green, which is located right on the lake front by the Rotorua CBD.

There are still spaces (limited) available at Tasman Holiday Parks – Rotorua. 

Check back for 2023 NZMCA member exclusive festival parking places. Otherwise Rotorua is motorhome friendly and you can park in town – see council info here.

You can buy a ticket online for just Saturday or Sunday – gate sales may be available if not sold out. A weekend pass gives you access to the Village Green from Friday through to Sunday – these are really good value! Buy your tickets here.

Yes. The VIP areas are R18. You will need ID to be in these areas and to purchase alcohol. No minors will be admitted to these areas. You need to buy this ticket type in advance.

We will have a large marquee for weather protection so the festival will rain rain or shine! However if we deem it unsafe for crew or patrons the event will be cancelled and your tickets will be valid for the following year’s festival. Bring an umbrella if you wish and keep an eye on the weather forecast as spring weather is changeable.
Sorry, no. The Village Green area will contain licensed bars where you can enjoy craft beer, wine, bubbles and mixed spirits (RTD’s).
No, you can’t bring in any picnic food (baby food allowed or contact us for exceptions). We will have food trucks on site that we are sure you’ll want to try! We will have about 300+ chairs available and you are welcome to bring your own camp chair too.

Yes! Exclusive 2023 event tshirts and caps will be available to purchase.


Yes, there will be loads of delicious food to tickle your taste buds. There will be food other than meat available too.

You will need to use an eftpos card to purchase food or drink on site. Vendors will not be accepting cash.

In the reserved VIP area you can choose a main meal each day from our bbq menu.


We run competitions in New Zealand under two sanctioning bodies, the New Zealand Barbecue Alliance and The Steak Cookoff Association, both have great information on their websites.

To keep the competition fair, judging is completed in private, however we will have our MCs talk you through the process at prizegiving

The teams are always keen to talk about barbecue! However there is a lot on the line during a competition, they’re competing as part of a national championship and will be very focused during hand in times, so they might ask you to come back when there is less pressure. Otherwise keep an eye out for our schedule of demos and classes so you can really set up your cooking game.

The teams are focused on preparing food for the judges. They take this competition stuff very seriously, there is a lot on the line for the teams + not many of them are registered food business, so are unable to supply food for the general public at events. However you can apply to be a judge, or grab a feed from one of our amazing vendors!
You can purchase food from our range of vendors, we will have Barbecue foods, as well as some of your usual festival favourites including vegetarian options.
Yes! We welcome new teams, and even have prizes for best new competitors over the festival. Check back on this website from 1st August to register.
No need to register for classes, your ticket includes access to the barbecue stage and demo area.


Yes, please bring your family along! Under 5 years are free. 6-12 years will need a day pass or weekend Pass. Tickets are available here. All ticket holder under 18 years MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult holding a valid ticket when entering and at ALL times during the event.
Yes, all ticket holders under 18 years MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult holding a valid ticket when entering and at ALL times during the event. Under 18 year old ticket holders not accompanied by at adult at the gate will not be admitted to the event or maybe be removed from the event.
Listen to great music, enjoy the sights, aromas and taste of great barbecue food. On Sunday be part of the day by entering BBQ comps and being part of the youth programme.
